Fear Of Trains

Before I forget, I need to get these thoughts out. This past weekend was pretty weird but not necessarily out of the ordinary. On Friday (1-11-08), I went up to see my friends in Manayunk. Getting there was much more difficult than that previous sentence. My train excursion started at City Hall (coming north from the subway of course). I took the train from City Hall to Ambler where I was planning to meet my friend to drive over to Manayunk. I call him when I arrive, he tells me he’s in Manayunk and asks what I am doing there. Miscommunication on both of our parts perhaps? Whatever it was somewhat of a downer. I waited for about a half hour for the train back into the city. I was planning on taking it to Temple, then from there taking it to Manayunk. I was sitting on the train having not paid yet, I thought I would get a free ride. I got up too early and sat in the front. I asked the Septa man on the train if I could get off at Fern Rock to head to Manayunk, he said “Yes” in his own words. Also, he made me pay because I was out of my hiding in the back seat.

To my surprise, there were no outbound trains from Fern Rock to Manayunk. Of course. Now, I was getting anxious. I even had to call my parents. I took the Broad Street Line to Temple. When I got to Temple I walked to the train station. I believe I was one minute late for the train. So, I had to wait an entire hour for the next one. Keep in mind that Manayunk is 10 minutes train time away. I waited the hour and got to hang out with my friends finally.

Approximate waste of money = $20
Experience = priceless???
